The Approach
Commercial light has a job to do
At home, lighting is mostly about mood. In an office, shop or hotel it has to earn its keep: help people work without eye strain, make products look their best, guide guests through a building and, on the outside, give the whole structure a presence on the skyline after dark.
Good commercial schemes are built in layers. General light from panels or downlights sets the base level, accent light from track spots draws the eye, and architectural light on the facade tells the street what the building is.

By Building Type
Six commercial briefs
Each building type asks something different of its lighting. Start from the brief and the fixture choice follows.
Brief 01
Open-Plan Offices
Plan a regular grid of LED panels or linear fittings for 400 to 500 lux at desk height, then break the uniformity with track spots or downlights on reception walls, breakout areas and meeting rooms. Keep colour temperature consistent across the floor, 4000K is the usual choice, so the space reads as one.
Brief 02
Shops & Showrooms
Light the product, not the floor. Track spots on every display, aimed at 30 degrees to avoid glare, and a lower general level so the merchandise stands out. Warmer 3000K suits fashion, furniture and hospitality; 4000K suits electronics and hardware.
Brief 03
Hotels & Restaurants
Layer warm downlights for circulation, dimmable accents on artwork and tables, and one statement piece in the lobby or over the bar. Put each layer on its own circuit or DALI group so the mood can shift from breakfast to late evening.
Brief 04
Hospitals & Clinics
Specify flicker-free LED panels with a high colour rendering index so skin tones read accurately at the bedside and in consulting rooms. Tunable white on DALI runs corridors and wards cool and bright through the day, then warm and low overnight so patients can rest.
Brief 05
Auditoriums & Conference Halls
Rows of recessed downlights handle the house lights. On DALI they fade to a preset when a talk begins, drop to a note-taking level for slides and come back up for questions, while aisle and step lights stay on for safety.
Brief 06
Building Facades
Uplight the vertical elements: columns, fins and textured walls. Narrow-beam spots at the base graze light up the stone, and wall washers flood whole elevations, including in colour for towers that change with the occasion. Plan cable routes and a timer or controller before the landscaping goes in.
Lighting Control
DALI dimming and tunable white
DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) gives every driver its own address on a simple two-wire control bus. Each LED panel, track spot or downlight can then be dimmed on its own, grouped with others and recalled as part of a saved scene, from a wall panel, a timer or the building management system.
Pair it with tunable-white fittings and the same ceiling can change colour temperature as well as brightness: cool, crisp light for focus and accuracy, warm, soft light for rest and hospitality. Our panels, tracks and downlights can be supplied with DALI tunable-white drivers on project orders.
Specify it at design stage. The control cable runs alongside the mains, so it costs very little to add before the ceiling closes and a lot to retrofit afterwards.

Prices are per fitting and include VAT. GU10 frames are supplied without lamps; track spots need a length of 2-wire track and connectors.

Recessed 600x600 LED panels on a regular grid for general light, at a neutral 4000K colour temperature that keeps people alert without feeling clinical. Add track spots or downlights for reception, feature walls and meeting rooms so the space does not feel flat.
Start with the architecture, not the fittings. Narrow-beam spotlights at the base of columns graze light upward and pick out texture; wall washers flood whole elevations evenly; spike spots lift planting and signage. Keep beams off windows and neighbouring plots, and use IP65-rated fittings as a minimum for Kenyan rains.
Yes. RGB and RGBW wall washers and spotlights can be driven by a DMX or wireless controller to change colour for events, brand colours or seasons. Specify this at design stage, since colour-changing systems need control cabling that is expensive to add later.
Track, in most cases. Retail displays change constantly and track heads can be moved and re-aimed in minutes without an electrician. Downlights suit fixed areas like tills, corridors and washrooms where the layout will not change.
Fittings start at about KES 580 for a recessed GU10 frame, KES 1,600 for an LED track spot and KES 2,750 for a 600x600 LED panel. A small office of 100 square metres typically needs 12 to 16 panels plus accent fittings. Send us drawings for a priced fixture schedule.
DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) is the open standard for commercial lighting control. Every driver gets its own address on a two-wire control bus, so each fitting can be dimmed, grouped and set to scenes individually. Our LED panels, track spots and downlights can be supplied with DALI drivers, including tunable-white versions that change colour temperature as well as brightness.
Tunable white lets the same fitting run cool, bright light (around 5000K to 6500K) when people need to be alert and accurate, and warm, dim light (around 2700K to 3000K) when they need to rest. In a hospital that means sharp light for examinations and ward rounds, then a calm, warm level overnight so patients can sleep. In an office it keeps light feeling natural across the working day.
